UVA (Universiteit van Amsterdam)

  • To complete your application, you need to fill out our official application form (from the Faculty of Humanities). You can find the application form for the academic year 2007-2008 on [http://www.hum.uva.nl/international] (select 'application' and then 'application form for exchange students).
  • The form should be signed by the student exchange coordinator at your University, and sent to the address above.
  • Deadline for the first semester/complete academic year 2007/2008 is May 15th, deadline for the second semester 2007/2008 is September 15th. *Please enclose the following items:
  • one passport-size picture;
  • a transcript with all the courses you took and the grades and credits you obtained (this transcript must be in English). If your university cannot provide you with this list in English, you can make your own translation into English. Please send us the official transcript from your university (in your own language) as well in that case!

UVA - MA-Courses

*If you also want to take MA-courses taught in English at the Faculty of Humanities, you need: * The test results of an English Proficiency test, only if English is not your mother tongue. We accept: IELTS (minimum result: 6,5), CAE (minimum score: A) or CPE (minimum score: B) see our website ('Entry requirements') for more information on these tests; * A bachelor-degree or 3 years of previous study in a field related to the MA-course(s) you want to take.

ISHSS (International School for Humanities and Social Sciences)

*If you also want to apply for courses from the Certificate (Undergraduate) Programme at the ISHSS (International School for Humanities and Social Sciences [http://www.ishss.uva.nl]) you need: * The test results of an English Proficiency test, only if English is not your mother tongue (check their website to see which tests they accept) * two years of previous studies at university level in a related field. * You can send your file to us, we will forward it to ISHSS. Exchange students cannot take Master-courses at ISHSS!

IMPORTANT

  • It is useless to apply for ISHSS courses or MA-courses if you do not meet the requirements mentioned above! If you will be accepted in these courses or not depends on your acceptance by the MA coordinator or ISHSS programme manager.
  • You can find information about the study programmes on our website [http://www.hum.uva.nl/international] ('studying at the faculty'). Please note that you'll only find information about the courses offered in the academic year 2006/2007 . We cannot guarantee that those courses will all be offered next year as well. The courses for the academic year 2007/2008 will be published on our website in June.

Workload

  • The normal workload of a regular student at the UvA is 30 ECTS, but you aren't obliged to take 30 ECTS. A total of 25 or even 20 is also okay.
  • You have to pick your courses out of the stream, that we published on our website.
  • You pick the courses of your choices out of more than one stream. So, if you pick three courses out of three different streams, that isn't a problem.

Accomodation

  • Since it's very difficult to find accommodation in Amsterdam, the University of Amsterdam will help you with your accommodation.
  • The UvA has a few student flats in different parts of Amsterdam to accommodate the exchange students.
  • If you are interested in renting a room through the University of Amsterdam than please fill in the accommodation preference form which you can find at the following website: [http://www.hum.uva.nl/international] - click services, select accomodation.

Dear Student,

You hereby receive information you need for your central registration at the Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Your student number at the Universiteit van Amsterdam is: 5854776

International Student Affairs has been notified of your intended study period at the Universiteit van Amsterdam, starting the second semester of the academic year 2007-2008. Please note that this e-mail is only to inform you about the central registration. This does not automatically mean that you have been accepted into your study programme. You will receive/have received your official letter of acceptance from the programme manager of the study programme or the faculty that you applied for.

For the central registration procedure, you have to fill out a Confirmation form. You can download this form at our website:

Please fill out the Confirmation form completely and email it together with a (scanned) copy of your passport before the 15th of January 2008 to the Central Student Administration. Email: confirmationform@uva.nl

Without your Confirmation form we will not be able to process your registration, nor will you receive a student card when you arrive in Amsterdam. This card is needed for all kinds of services like computer facilities, library etc.

You will also receive a mailing by post from International Student Affairs.

If you, for any reason, have decided not to enroll at our university in February 2008, please send an e-mail to your faculty/programme manager as soon as possible to report this. We will be grateful for your co-operation. We wish you all the best preparing yourself for your stay at our university and we are looking forward to welcoming you in Amsterdam.
